Определяется как оцененная справедливая стоимость нематериального актива в конце срока его полезной службы за вычетом (если она есть) ликвидационной стоимости. Признанный нематериальный актив с неопределенным сроком службы может не амортизироваться до тех пор, пока его срок службы не перестанет считаться неопределенным. Признанный нематериальный актив, который не амортизируется, должен ежегодно подвергаться тесту на обесценение, причем иногда даже чаще, если какое-либо событие или изменение ситуации между двумя годичными тестами покажет, что актив может потерять часть своей стоимости.
